Access & security

Getting to your unit easily — and knowing it's looked after when you're not there.

What are the gate access hours?
Gate access is available daily from 6:00am to 9:00pm. This gives you plenty of flexibility to access your storage unit before or after work, on weekends, or while you're in the middle of a big move.
Can I access my storage unit 7 days a week?
Yes. Unit holders have full access to the facility 7 days a week, 365 days a year, during our standard gate hours 6:00am to 9:00pm.
Do I need to book a time to access my unit?
No. Once your unit is set up and your gate code is active, you can come and go as you please during gate hours without needing to book ahead.
Is the site secure?
Yes, security is a top priority. Thames Street Storage features controlled electronic gate access, 24/7 CCTV surveillance, secure perimeter fencing, and regular security patrols to keep the facility safe.
Can I drive up to my storage unit?
Yes. All of our units are ground-floor with direct drive-up access. This makes it incredibly easy to load and unload items straight from your car, van, trailer, or moving truck without dealing with lifts or long hallways.

Pricing & availability

Honest local rates, flexible terms, and a quick way to check what's free right now.

How much does storage cost?
Our popular Medium 9.5 m² units start from $70 per week, depending on unit size and current availability. Storage fees are billed weekly in advance. Get in touch with our team today to get an accurate quote for your specific needs.
Are there any admin fees or bonds?
No. We like to keep things simple and transparent — there are no admin fees and no bond required to secure your unit.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
Not at all. We offer highly flexible month-to-month storage arrangements. Whether you need space for a single month while moving house or a long-term solution for your business, you only store for as long as you need.
How do I check availability?
The quickest way is to send us a quick online enquiry. Let us know what you are looking to store and your target move-in date, and we will instantly confirm our best available options.
How quickly can I move in?
If we have a suitable unit vacant, you can often move in the very same day. Once your digital paperwork and ID setup are complete, we can activate your gate access code immediately.

Unit sizes

A versatile range of single-level, drive-up units — from a few boxes to a full household or business.

What storage unit sizes are available?
We offer a versatile range of spaces. This spans from smaller units perfect for archive boxes, tools, and seasonal gear up to large, spacious units built for full household moves, vehicles, or commercial business stock.
What size storage unit do I need?
It depends entirely on your inventory. As a rough guide, smaller units are great for clearing out a spare room or storing tools, while our larger units easily accommodate full furniture sets or commercial equipment. Tell our team what you're packing, and we will recommend the perfect fit so you don't pay for unused space.
Do any units have mezzanine storage?
Yes! Select units feature mezzanine storage layers. This gives you excellent extra vertical space to safely stack lighter items, maximizing your storage volume without increasing your unit footprint.
Can I change to a different unit size later?
Absolutely. If your storage needs change and a suitable alternative unit is available on-site, we will happily help you transition into a smaller or larger space.

Moving in

Everything you need to know to get set up and load in smoothly.

What do I need to move in?
Once your digital rental agreement is signed, you just need to bring your goods and any moving supplies you require (boxes, ties, protective blankets). You will also need to bring your own padlock to secure your unit door.
Do I need to bring my own padlock?
Yes. You provide your own heavy-duty padlock. You keep the only keys to that lock, ensuring that you are the only person with physical access to your unit.
Can I use a trailer, van, or moving truck?
Yes. The facility is custom-designed for easy logistics. We feature a wide main entrance gate and spacious driveways specifically laid out to accommodate larger moving vans, trailers, and commercial trucks.
Can someone else move items in for me?
Yes, professional movers or family members can handle the heavy lifting for you. Just notify us in advance so we can ensure the correct gate access privileges are seamlessly arranged.
Is the site easy to access from Napier?
Extremely easy. Thames Street Storage is centrally located at 33 Thames Street, Pandora, Napier. Our convenient location makes us the perfect storage hub for customers across central Napier, Ahuriri, Onekawa, Taradale, Hastings, and the wider Hawke's Bay region.

What you can store

Most household and commercial goods are welcome — a few things can't be stored for safety and legal reasons.

What can I store in my unit?
You can store the vast majority of standard household goods, personal items, and commercial assets. This includes furniture, documents, tools, sports gear, retail inventory, and non-perishable equipment.
Can I store a vehicle?
Yes, several of our larger drive-up units are well-suited for vehicle, car, or motorbike storage. Please contact us directly to check current availability for vehicle-sized spaces.
What items are strictly prohibited?
To ensure the safety of the facility and all contents, you cannot store items that are dangerous, illegal, flammable, toxic, or perishable. This includes petrol, gas bottles, chemicals, firearms, plants, or live animals.

Insurance & care of items

Storage keeps your belongings secure, but it's still worth thinking about cover and how you pack.

Are my items insured while in storage?
No. You are responsible for insuring your own belongings while they are in storage. Check with your insurer to confirm whether your contents policy covers items stored away from home. We highly recommend contacting your current home and contents insurance provider to seamlessly extend your policy to cover items stored away from home.
Are the units weather-resistant?
Yes. Our units are designed to keep your belongings completely protected from normal Hawke's Bay weather conditions. For ultimate preservation, we always suggest using sturdy, sealed plastic boxes, wrapping fragile items, and ensuring all goods are 100% dry before putting them into storage.
How should I pack my storage unit?
We recommend placing heavier items at the bottom, labelling your boxes clearly, and stacking vertically to use the height of the unit. If you plan on visiting your unit often, leave a narrow walkway down the center so you can easily reach items at the back.

Moving out

Wrapping up is straightforward — here's what to expect when it's time to leave.

How much notice do I need to give when moving out?
We require a minimum of 10 working days' written notice (an email works perfectly!) before you intend to vacate your unit.
What do I need to do on my move-out day?
Simply clear all of your belongings out of the space, give the unit a quick sweep, and remove your padlock. Once the unit is empty and clean, let us know so we can officially finalize your account.
Can I leave unwanted items or rubbish behind?
No. The unit must be left completely empty and tidy. Any rubbish or unwanted items left behind in the unit or around the facility common areas will result in additional clearing and disposal fees.

How storage pricing works

Storage is priced on the space you rent, not the stuff you put in it. A handful of things move the price up or down.

Unit size

The biggest factor. You pay for the floor area — and the height you can stack into.

How long you stay

Short and long term both work; longer stays are usually better value per month.

Demand & availability

Like most things, the popular sizes move fast — so it pays to ask early.

What you can expect to pay

Our Medium 9.5 m² units start from $70/week. The exact rate depends on the size you need and how long you stay — get a quote and we'll confirm pricing and availability for your unit.
